Tonight’s Tuesday Night on Main event has been canceled… high wind accompanied with rain doesn’t make for much fun in the park. We will attempt to partner with another group as these events will continue to take place throughout the summer. Hopefully Mother Nature will straighten out soon.

We have a couple of key updates to share…. Last week, our board approved moving graduation credits from 22 to 24 for all students entering high school through Juniors. This should NOT greatly impact students as they are already required to 7 credits as a freshman and 6 sophomore through senior. The intent behind this is to expand our elective coursework to give students more exposure with electives and coop/work experiences. Additionally, students will continue to be able to take more dual credit opportunities. More importantly, it allows greater eligibility for scholarships for 2- and 4-year programs along with great opportunities to remain competitive in the admissions process, especially for 2-year programs. School breakfast and lunch prices were also set last week by the board. For the last two years these meals have been “free”, but now the federal government has decided to not continue this program. Therefore, prices for students will $2.75 for breakfast and $3.50 for lunch and adults will pay $3.50 for breakfast and $4.25 for lunch. Prices have not increased in at least 7 years and now with current rates of inflation they needed to be adjusted. In hindsight, a soda at restaurant averages between $2-$4 pending where you go…meaning we are still able to offer an appropriate meal for well under what can get at a restaurant. We are strongly recommending all who may or may think they may qualify for free/reduced lunches and breakfast. The income thresholds have been changed by the feds and more should be eligible. For more information on this, please contact the school. Three more things… the southern portion of the elementary school along with some portions of the high school will be getting new windows along with some significant caulking taking place at the high school. Also, the bus barn will be getting new sheet metal and doors starting soon. Lastly, a citizens’ advisory committee is working through the process of a potential bond referendum to build an activity center, which would require a vote of the people should the board decide to move forward. This has not been decided yet and more information will be made available soon. Please note we have exhausted most grants and other dollars in the past 3 years to greatly improve our facilities. Through these nearly $5.5 million in funds, we have remodeled both buildings with new lighting, flooring, paint, and electrical along with new boilers and a roof at the elementary. Additionally, we have added new bleachers to the high school and provided secure entrances at both buildings. The high school has a multipurpose room, which is utilized as both a classroom/meeting space along with being our cafeteria. If you have not been in the buildings in a while, I strongly recommend you come for a tour, and I’d be happy to facilitate. Please contact me at the school and set up an appointment. Dr. K. PS...please share.

Deputy Dave Kamp was busy rewarding many kids for safety this morning! He’s been visiting classrooms to remind students of bike safety and he has observed many wearing their helmets riding bike on their way to and from school each day! Issuing DQ certificates is a fun “ticket” to give out! Here are just a few great examples!
