We are considering departmentalizing and having a middle school model for grades 5 and 6 in our elementary school in the near future. In this model, 4 teachers would each teach 1 subject (math, science, social studies, or language arts), and students move to these teachers. Students would have a homeroom teacher for other things such as art, classroom parties and field trips, communication with parents, etc. We would like your input before making such a change in our school.

Saturday's Boys' game has been moved from Hettinger to Scranton. Game times are listed as Central and are as follows. JV at 2, Varsity at 3:30. Safe travels!
The C Squad game against New Salem on Friday has been cancelled due to low numbers/injuries in New Salem. JV Game will start at 6 and Varsity will start at 7:30.

Dear Parents and Guardians,
A nationwide breach involving PowerSchool’s support portal has impacted some student and teacher data.
Out of an abundance of caution, access to PowerSchool has been temporarily locked down as of 12:00 PM today for any user who is not connected to the state network, StageNet This means that access from outside the school network will be unavailable after this time. North Dakota Information Technology (NDIT) is working with PowerSchool and districts to evaluate the scope of the incident.
We also recommend changing your PowerSchool password as a precaution.
We want to provide you with the details of this incident and what steps are being taken to ensure the security of your information.
What Happened:
• On December 28, 2024, PowerSchool discovered unauthorized access to certain data in one of their customer support portals (PowerSource).
• PowerSchool identified that only specific users whose information was marked in certain system configurations may have been affected.
What’s Being Done:
• PowerSchool has activated its cybersecurity response protocols and brought in third-party cybersecurity experts.
• Access to the affected portal has been secured.
• PowerSchool has confirmed there is no evidence of malware or ongoing unauthorized activity.
Next Steps for Parents:
• Change your PowerSchool password as a precaution. Create a strong password that you do not use for other accounts.
• Monitor communications from your school for updates as additional information becomes available.
• The next update on this incident will be sent out on January 17 by noon.

Hoping everyone enjoyed Christmas and continue to enjoy the holiday break. The boys game in Linton that was postponed on the 19th has been moved to January 2nd, time to remain the same, 4:00, 5:30, and 7.
Attention 7-12 Students and Parents:
Tomorrow, we will follow a regular school day schedule, including finals. There will be no modified schedule.
For Grades 9-12:
• Students who do not have a final, test, or project during a specific class period are not required to report to that class.
• This approach allows teachers to provide additional support to students needing more time to complete their finals.
• Students are welcome to be at school all day, and classes will run as scheduled for those attending.
For Grades 7-8:
• All students are expected to attend their regular classes as usual.

With school being canceled, there will be no Girls' basketball, JH basketball, cheerleading, and archery practice. Wrestlers will not be going to Velva for the Quad and the Boys basketball game in Hazelton has been postponed to a date that is being determined soon. Stay safe and warm.

The weatherman was right on wind so far, which means the 50+ mph gusts are likely coming. That being said, visibility is poor in the country and both the city and county roads are drifting in.... Meaning, it's only going to get worse, so NO school today. Plans regarding finals for grades 7-12 will come out later this morning for tomorrow. Stay safe and warm.

Based on current conditions from driving around and not using my son's reasoning, we will be having a late start on Thursday. School will begin at 10:00 with staff reporting at 9:30. There will be no breakfast or PK, and buses running where possible at driver's discretion. However, based on the current forecast, the wind is supposed to blow much harder and weather people rarely get the wind wrong... That being said, I will make the call no later then 8:00 am should we cancel for the day.

In partnership with NDSU Extension Center, Bob Callies Elementary held a full day Safe Sitter course for 6th graders today. Each student learned important skills for taking care of younger children and received a sitter supply kit. We appreciate the time and expertise from our multiple presenters as well as the sponsorship we received from GAIA to help fund this endeavor.
We are ready for Friday's Christmas movie! Here are some important notes:
*No Mike and Ike’s so we substituted for airhead extremes.
*We ran out of skittles so some substituted starburst.
*We ran out of blue Powerade so substituted water.
**If these substitutions are an issue, we can exchange these products only with the child’s bag showing proof of purchase and unopened product on Friday morning at the theater.
